Laptops for Volunteers

in

To facilitate communications with emergency response personnel, the Association has initiated a program called Laptops for Volunteers. The purpose of this program is to provide laptop computers to volunteer emergency response agencies. Details of the program are outlined below:

  1. The goal of the program is to improve communications with emergency response agencies by providing equipment that will facilitate electronic communications.
  2. Only volunteer agencies or organizations representing volunteer agencies are invited to participate in the program. Agencies wishing to participate should email the Association with their location and contact information.
  3. Agencies are encouraged to participate through state level organizations such as the State Fire Marshals Office or other agencies representing volunteers.
  4. Equipment is intended to be distributed primarily on a first come first serve basis; however, the Association does not control the donation process.
  5. Equipment does not come with software. All software, including an operating system, will have to be provided by the agency receiving the equipment.
  6. The condition of the equipment is not known. The Association and the equipment donors make no guarantees about the condition of the equipment or its fitness for a particular purpose.
  7. The equipment is not being sold, it is being freely donated. The safe use of the equipment is the responsibility of the recipient.
  8. Shipping or delivery of equipment is generally not provided by donors and should not be expected.
  9. The equipment will come from Association Members and other participating companies. The Association does not handle or transfer the equipment. It is acting only as facilitator of the program.
  10. Participation in the program is not limited to Association Members. Any company with unneeded equipment is urged to participate.

Jake Jacobs is coordinating the distribution of equipment for this program. He may be reached via email at: Jake Jacobs

As of January 1, 2008, over 120 laptops have been distributed to volunteer agencies.
